The Gee Whiz Story

The Gee Whiz Story

Some may wonder, why Gee Whiz? Just ask our founder and executive chairman, Pasquale Trozzolo. He remembers his father, Ralph, showing joy or frustration with the phrase “Gee Whiz!” when he was young. So when Gilda Trozzolo, Pasquale’s mother, decided to open a candy store, picking the name was easy. Gee Whiz Candy was established in 1971 in Elmwood Park, Illinois. Later, a Gee Whiz Variety store was opened. Both stores are long gone, but the Gee Whiz spirit lives on in our idea factory.

In 2010, we purchased a long-vacant, dilapidated building at 8th and Wyandotte in downtown Kansas City, and rebuilt it from the ground up, preserving historic touches such as the staircase and tin ceiling tiles.

Over 18 months, we created our new headquarters, designed just for our agency and the work environment it cultivates. Our new home – the Gee Whiz Factory – more than doubled our space and will continue to serve our long-term growth goals.

Our headquarters, built in 1899 as part of the business boom in Kansas City, is now on the National Register of Historical Places.

Frankel, Frank and Co., a millinery supply company, was the first tenant at 811 Wyandotte in downtown Kansas City. From these headquarters, Frankel Frank grew to add showrooms in New York, Chicago and St. Louis. Piper Brace Company was the last tenant in our building, vacating it around 1990.

Gee Whiz, we love this place!
